May 17, 2006 -- the day of Heritage Academy’s first Spring Formal was definitely a day to remember. Ninth graders through twelfth graders got the opportunity to dress up, eat a fancy meal, receive “awards,” and play all kinds of crazy games. All the students showed up at Shelter Gardens dressed as if they were going to a ball. We stood around waiting for the cameras to stop blinding us, and then piled in cars to go eat. We arrived at a little building not far from Cold Stones Ice-cream. The room we entered was decorated beautifully and we all sat down at little round tables.
David M., Robin, Karis, Elliott, Jon T., and Mary were in charge of the entertainment. They handed us each a gold envelope. Inside was a little survey that asked us random questions about the students. Such as, who is the most likely to go bald first (Nate won that one)? Who will most likely become president (Elliott won)? Who will most likely have the most kids (Katie)? Who is the most elegantly dressed tonight (beautiful Kathryn won this question)? All the winners were announced and they were given random awards. Such as a comb, American flag, baby bottle, and for Kathryn… a tiara.
After everyone ate the delicious food, we changed from gowns to jeans and took off for the Russell’s barn. When we arrived, music was playing, chocolate was overflowing from the fondue fountain, and laughter could be heard from everyone’s mouth. The games we did were so random, yet fun. The best part was when everyone had to walk across the room, each person in a different way… one spun across, another ran, one tiptoed, one walked backwards, another on their hands, or did a back hand spring -- that was me. We enjoyed ourselves until about 1:00am when it was time to go home.
This year’s formal will be equally fun… everyone that can must come. Who would want to miss such an outrageously fun evening? Not me!
