What Is A University-Model School®?

Imagine students of elementary through high school ages going to classes the way most college students do. Let the elementary students receive professional instruction at school on Tuesdays and Thursdays (TTh), then study for their classes AT HOME on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (MWF) under a parent’s guidance. From seventh grade on, how about shifting their teacher-led class days to MWF and leading them to study under a parent’s oversight on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What kind of head start for college could we give them if, as juniors and seniors, they actually practiced an authentic university-style schedule, including
* some MWF classes,
* some TTh classes,
* some extra-curricular activities and/or part time jobs,
* the responsibility for accomplishing their out-of-class assignments during their discretionary hours?

Do you think it would impact the behavior and character development of these students if parents were so highly involved? Would family relationships, both present and future, be strengthened with such an approach?

What if all of this could be done for about half the tuition cost of a typical private school?

Could it ever work?  Good news . . . IT IS WORKING RIGHT NOW!

University-Model Approach

Heritage Academy uses a university class schedule for courses.  This accomplishes two important and distinctive features: classroom and extra-curricular activities are scheduled every other day to integrate effectively with the home school schedule; such a schedule also provides the most efficient college preparatory environment.

Elementary classes are offered on Tuesday/Thursday and secondary on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Students may take one or more classes.  Students will be in the home school classroom when not in Heritage Academy classes.
